How it works

Like a dating app but for tenants and landlords

1 Tell us what matters.

Looking for a home, or for someone to live in yours? Either way, start with how you live and what will not work.

2 We look for the fit.

Lifestyle, living habits and household preferences, alongside the practical stuff like budget and area.

3 Meet the match.

Landlords meet vetted tenants. Tenants discover preferred homes. Co-tenants get to know the household before they join it.

4 See where it goes.

The match does not end when the lease is signed. That is where living together begins.

How we vet

Everyone here has been vetted. Properly.

We vet both sides before anyone meets, so you can rent with confidence. When you see the Verified tick on a profile or a home, this is what it means.

For tenants

We vet tenants for how they live, not only what they earn.

Every tenant goes through the usual checks. Then we go further, so we understand what kind of tenant and housemate they are, how they live and who they live best with. That is how we match people with the right people and the right home.

  • Credit and affordability checks
  • Previous landlord references
  • Identity and employment or study verified
  • Social vetting: routines, habits, values and lifestyle
  • Compatibility with housemates and the household they join
For landlords and properties

We verify every landlord and every home before it is listed.

We meet all of our landlords in person and inspect each property and the surrounding area ourselves. So when you find a home or housemates through Roomiverse, you can rest assured you will not lose a deposit or a home to a scam.

  • Ownership or main lessee of the property confirmed
  • Every landlord met face to face
  • In person viewing and inspection of the property
  • Photos checked against the home as it is today
  • The street and surrounding area visited and assessed

Renting breaks when people do not fit.

Landlords take on strangers. Tenants move in with people they have never met. Happy households stay longer and pay on time.

Tenants and landlords are vetted and matched on how they like to share a home, so you live with people you like. It’s how people used to live: more neighbourly, less lonely.

FAQ

Quick answers

Anything else? hello@roomiverse.co.za

What does "people first" mean?

We look at how people live before we look at properties. Only once a profile fits do we match it to a home.

Do I need a clean credit record?

We look at the whole picture when we vet. Roomiverse looks beyond credit scores to consider the bigger picture. We take a more holistic approach to assessing rental suitability, considering factors such as references from people you’ve lived with alongside other relevant information.

We believe there’s more to being a good tenant than a credit score alone. Our approach gives people a fairer opportunity to demonstrate that they’re the right fit for a rental arrangement.

When do I pay?

Tenants: R600 in total, R250 at vetting and R350 when you sign a lease. Private landlords: R900 once a tenant is placed, for the first 20 units matched, then R1 900 per lease. Property agents, managers and developers: R600 per matched tenant for the first 30 tenants, then R1 400 per tenant.

What happens to my information?

We collect only what matching needs, you control what others see, and we follow POPIA.
